About Us

Our Vision

To instill hope in children affected by HIV/AIDS in Cameroon, Africa.

Our Mission

To provide school tuition, school supplies and teachers' salaries, as well as build schools, so that children affected by HIV/AIDS can realize their ambitions and help create a better world for themselves, their families and their communities.

Our Values

We hold ourselves accountable for meeting our goals and commitment to the children and families affected by HIV/AIDS. We value diversity and mutual respect to ensure the most positive results for ourselves, our partners and those we serve.

What We Do

  • A Place of Hope supports HIV/AIDS orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) by providing the foundation for receiving an education: funds to pay for school tuition, school uniforms, books, supplies and associated application and administrative fees; funds to cover teachers’ salaries; funds to build new school buildings.
  • A separate initiative, Packs for Sacks, provides backpacks for our OVCs.
  • We travel to Cameroon periodically to distribute supplies, to meet with our partner organization there, to enlist the endorsement of local government officials, and to show the children that we have not forgotten them.
  • We participate in community events to strengthen our organization internally and to publicize our mission.
  • We make presentations to area churches, schools, business groups and other organizations to enlist their participation in our fundraising efforts.
  • We encourage anyone who is interested in helping us make a difference in the lives of the OVCs to join us!  For only 25¢ per day, you can sponsor a child's education. For more information, see Coins for Cameroon.

We are a non profit, public, tax exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Letter from Our Founders

A Place of Hope was birthed by the pain two young women felt because of the devastation and destruction left in the wake of the HIV/AIDS virus. As they traveled throughout their native country, Cameroon, they saw families torn apart because of an indiscriminate disease fueled by fear and misunderstanding. Nothing made their hearts ache more than seeing innocence lost. Children were affected with this vicious predator and left suffering, through no fault of their own. Both of these women felt God's calling to help, and they responded. As they have said before, "God took my heart, and from it, He created Place of Hopes."

Abong and Yvonne are striving to bring their God-inspired vision to reality for children who have nowhere else to turn. Their commitment and passion have enabled them to carry their mission forward, focusing on helping others create and maintain a global legacy of love for those who did not have it before. No doubt Place of Hopes is a grand vision. However, with faith, love and support of others who feel the burden they feel, they know even our hearts stop beating, the gifts that are given today will continue to provide a Place of Hopes for others.

A Place of Hope Milestones:
